Jeff Barber, MSW, RSW
Jeff Barber is a Registered Social Worker and is in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). He holds a Master of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in addition to a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree in Social Development Studies from the University of Waterloo and a Social Service Worker diploma from Conestoga College.
Jeff has over 17 years’ experience working with children, individuals, couples and families in areas including: receiving a new health diagnosis, ongoing medical concerns, marriage or family conflict, grief and loss and a variety of other life transitional issues. Jeff strives to collaboratively engage with individuals and families to strengthen their ability to gain new skills and improve their mental health outcomes. His sense of humour and empathetic approach assists him in connecting with adults and children alike. Jeff believes that offering a male perspective in counselling can be helpful in breaking down barriers or fears that men may have about seeking support from a counsellor. Alternatively, having a safe and healthy male figure can be supportive for women and children clients who may benefit from a positive male influence. Jeff’s clients appreciate his client-centred use of therapeutic modalities that focus on self-determination and meeting their individual needs.
As a counsellor, Jeff works from a strength-based perspective whereby he believes in working in collaboration with his client to develop their own intrinsic potential. Clients can expect Jeff to listen intently while co-creating a plan of support and actioning change. Jeff is committed to creating an authentic, compassionate environment where his client feels safe to establish goals, embrace learning opportunities and celebrate transformation.
Jeff is happy to offer appointments on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday evenings and Saturdays and is able to accommodate alternate appointments when possible.
