Elizabeth Akinyemi, MSW, RSW
Elizabeth Akinyemi is a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree. She is a certified member of both the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). In addition to her Master’s, Elizabeth holds a diploma in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Children Development and Contemporary Studies. Elizabeth is certified level 2 in both Traumatology and Gottman Method of Couples Therapy. She is passionate about relationships and helping people build meaningful relationships with self and others.
Elizabeth has over 20+ years’ experience working with people (Children, Individuals, Couples and Families) in diverse roles and varying capacities. She has experience as a Teacher, an Early Childhood Educator, Community Mental Health Co-ordinator, Mental Health Educator, and Clinical Counsellor.
Elizabeth works with the whole person and comfortably works with issues such as trauma and PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Elizabeth is skilled in Children Behavioural Management, parenting Issues, attachment, navigating life transitions and immigration adjustments. She is trained in diverse therapeutic model such as Traumatology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Mindfulness and Creative Therapy. Elizabeth continues to pursue evidence-based learning on the use of art and play in therapy.
Elizabeth works in an eclectic, client-centered way to meet the needs of her clients. Her therapeutic style is relational because she knows great things happen through relationship. She works through a trauma-informed lens and brings her whole self to the room. Elizabeth will hold the space for you to lean in, explore your situation and work collaboratively with you to figure out a way to heal, move forward and achieve your therapy goals.
